The Nair Service Society

ABOUT NSS

The Nair Service Society, a synonym for selfless service and social commitment, was founded by the visionary reformer late Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan in the year 1914.

Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan instilled a sense of direction in the Nair community by organizing the people under the banner of Nair Service Society, a service organization equipped and committed to the cause of providing modern education, a positive outlook, a sense of purpose to the society.

His vision and guidance led to the establishment of various educational institutions, hospitals, and other socially beneficial institutions all over the state of Kerala (India).

The Nair community, The N.S.S (Adelaide Region), follows the same footsteps, vision and path of Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan, to contribute and extend its commitment towards the welfare of the society.

ORIGIN OF NSS

Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan a schoolmaster-turned lawyer, dedicated his life to uplift the Nair community with persuasive eloquence. He helped the community members to come under one society by organizing village councils and eventually setting up Taluk and District councils that worked under the apex of NSS. He was beyond the ordinary, in terms of the size, scale and significance of his achievements. He worked with deep conviction, single-minded devotion, rare zeal and zest, for the protection and promotion of the interests of his community and the well being of all.

Sri Mannathu Padmanabhan, with some of his close friends set up the Nair Service Society in July 1915. Thus, the Nair Samudaya Bhrithya Jana Sangham founded on October 31, 1914 established under the name NSS. He motivated the community members to organise and make changes in their customs, conventions and rituals. His initiatives embarked the growth of the Nair community and built several institutions under the title of NSS which brought immense gratitude and pride the community deserved. Amidst these heavy preoccupations, he found time to fight for social equality and also took part in the national freedom struggle.
